During the offseason, the Angels let Chone Figgins and his 114 runs, 101 walks and 42 stolen bases head up north to Seattle, leaving 24-year-old Brandon Wood to fill in some big shoes. The Halos were willing to sacrifice speed on the bases for power at the plate. But Wood’s performance thus far at the Big Show has been, in a word…underwhelming. Here are some reasons why they thought it would work out.
Woods started with the Angels program when he was 18, but had his break out year in 2005 with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, slugging 43 homeruns in 536 at bats, tallying 115 RBIs at the shortstop position. He earned a spot on the AAA squad in 2007, and finally saw some Major League action, but was only able to collect 5 hits in 33 at bats. He also struck out 12 times. Woods worked his way into 55 games in 2008, but he didn’t do much better. He was able to bring in 13 runners off of 5 home runs, but he could only muster a .200 average with a .224 one-base-percentage.
Collectively, Woods has hit 7 home runs, brought in 19 RBIs. But he’s only earned 7 walks and struck out 74 times in 224 at bats. He’s currently batting .091 in 2010.
I know he’s young, but it’s time to think about making a move. Visit our fan forum and let us know if the Angels should do something about Brandon Wood.

You’re seriously ready to dump the guy after the first week? Did you think he was going to start by batting .300? This kid is getting at least 3 months before any move is made.
