Apparently the commissioners office said there is no conclusive evidence that Mariano Rivera cheated. Um, is he watching the same video I am. Why would he first look up (possibly to see if anyone is looking), and then spit right toward the ball. If he wasn’t cheating he is an idiot.
It has been said that a spitball doesn’t perform like Rivera’s cutter, and it performs more like a knuckleball. This just isn’t true. It only ads extra movement. It is impossible to say how it will move because it depends on how much spit is on the ball and where it is on the ball.
The bigger question is why is this getting such little coverage. ESPN talked about it a little, but I have only seen it otherwise on a few blogs and on Facebook. When Brendan Donnelly was suspected of using pine tar we didn’t here the end of it. It’s time to return the favor.

The angle of the camera makes it deceiving. Do you really think Rivera would risk his Long career reputation and future HOF status for one pitch in a playoff game with a boatload of video and still cameras pointed at him?
Do you really think people would still take steriods even though they have already been caught once? People do stupid things to get an edge. I’m not trying to explain it. I just see what I see.
People don’t take steroids out in the open with a bunch of cameras and a stadium full of opposing fans looking at them.

The one camera angle we have (mlb has access to much more) is to the side and behind Mariano which leads to deceptive perception. Based on that, no other conclusive images to confirm and basic logic for the circumstances, I think this is much ado about nothing.

A little info on image perspective:
Telephoto lenses like the ones used on the digital video cameras effectively compress the image causing the perceived distance relationships to be skewed. The angle also effects the perceived distance relationships. A wide angle lens in contrast will have the effect of a larger perceived distance relationship.

I totally agree! I can’t believe that the Angels are playing so scared. They seem so nervous about each game, and have lost the magic that propelled them into the post-season. It’s disappointing to see them play like this after all they battled through all season.
I’m puzzled Tony, why would MLB need more time to come to a conclusion?
