Clay Buchholz will miss the All-Star game with an injury. This means that a spot has been opened up for another pitcher on the All-Star roster. And the spot goes to…Andy Pettitte? Don’t get me wrong, Andy Pettitte has had an amazing start, but should he really have the edge.
Andy Pettitte: W(10), IP(105.1), K(78), BB(31), ERA(2.82), WHIP(1.15), K/9(6.66)
Jered Weaver: W(8), IP(108.2), K(124), BB(26), ERA(2.82), WHIP(1.06), K/9(10.27)
This is absolutely no contest and completely outrageous. Once again Major League baseball has continued its obsession with both wins, and the New York Yankees. Not only are Jered Weavers numbers better, but Anaheim is the host city and the Angels have only one All-Star.
If you would like to let Major League Baseball know that this is not ok, here is their email address. mlbexecutiverelations@website.mlb.com

Do you guys even know how this works? Andy Pettite was runner-up in the players vote, thus bumping him up automatically. If you’re gonna blame anybody blame the players! It wasn’t Girardi that made that decision or the front office. It’s the way it was set up. I’m mad that Weaver isn’t on the team, but you guys need to read a bit more before you start making assumptions. And another thing, Weaver is scheduled to pitch on the Sunday before the game. That would make him ineligible to pitch in the game. Even is another spot opened up, why would Girardi pick him to go? He wouldn’t pitch and since MLB made the All-Star game count it doesn’t make much sense to have a ‘empty’ space on the roster. Maybe it just wasn’t meant to happen, but I’m definitely disappointed in MLB as a whole for the choices that were made this year. Hopefully something does get done about this.
We appreciate the passion Joe, but you are wrong. Replacement players are chosen by the manager and the commissioners office. And I’m sure if Weaver was selected Scioscia would accommodate for that. Thanks!
ok now no weaver, sabathia or trevor cahill because they are slated to pitch on sunday. ! ho is going to be sent to represent oakland now??
